Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is found on Lake Victoria and its major aim is to care for the rescued orphaned chimpanzees mainly from poachers. It’s located approximately 63km from Kampala city.

Your guide will meet you and brief you about the whole trip to Ngamba. You will then embark on a boat to the Island from Entebbe. On your arrival, you will get chance to get close to the chimps and also feed them. The chimpanzees roam freely on the 100 hectares of a forested Island. This is a worthwhile visit which gives an opportunity to all those who have always wished to see how Lake Victoria looks like as you travel along the waters.

The lake has got good views and lots of birds on it like Cormorant birds, and cattle egrets. And as you land on the island the great view of the Chimpanzee island is spectacular, the singing Black headed weavers will welcome you on the island. The spur winged lapwings, African Open billed storks, Sacred ibis, Egyptian goose, yellow billed dark, kingfishers and many fish eagles among others.

The Chimp Island has got much more to see and do apart from Chimpanzee watching. There are lots of Monitor lizards along the waters of the island, many black headed weavers’ nests around, also get to see eggs of lapwings which are layed in the sand.Harmocks to relax and swing your babies are available, volley ball games, and nice sitting umbrellas are available.

The Days Chimp Experience at Ngamba:

Chimpanzee feeding times are 11:00am and 2:30pm.

We have a full day session at the Island where you get to see the chimps feed two times leave. At 8:00am and return later 6pm.

Half day sessions, you will see the chimps feed once depending on the session you take.

Morning session from, 8:00am and return later at 1:30pm OR Afternoon session where you leave at 11:00am from your Hotel and return later at 6pm.
